Well, that was a way to end the show. I don’t want to talk about the ending now though, so, let’s talk about the whole show first. Because while the last few matches delivered, the rest of the show – not so much. But I guess they were pushing 3 to 4 big matches and all delivered.
I’m not going to talk about the crappy preshow matches that didn’t need to exist at all.
The opening match was the fatal 4 way tag team match for the WWE World Tag Team Championship with New Day defending against SAWFT, the Vaudevillains, and the Club. This match was good, but it was pretty sloppy at times which made it awkward. For instance, the pinfall Enzo got on whomever took the Rocket Launcher was a legit 3 count before Enzo was pulled out of the ring, so SAWFT should be the champions. I heard three hits of the mat by the ref’s hand. Also there was just some other confusion at times to make this match not as good as it should have been. New Day retained to no one’s surprise.
Baron Corbin defeated Dolph Ziggler in a match that should have been a lot shorter. Corbin should be beating Dolph way more quickly. And there’s not much to talk about here, either.
Charlotte and Dana Brooke defeated Becky Lynch and Natalya in a meh match that featured too much Natalya and not enough Becky. BECKY VS. EVERYONE is now a thing, though, since Natalya turned on her after the loss because Natalya is the absolute worst.
Apollo Crews defeated Sheamus in a decent match, but he should have won with an actual finisher and not an “I caught you” roll up.
A.J. Styles defeated John Cena in a really good match that was somewhat ruined by the finish. I have no problem at all that Styles won with help from the Club. I expected it. However, it pisses me off that Cena lost to the Magic Killer itself. I wish A.J. had followed it up with a Styles Clash or something just so it looked like he had anything to do with winning the match. Because now it looks like he was just gifted a win. The rest of it was great, though – I just wish A.J. didn’t always sell everything like it’s death.
The match of the night was definitely the Money in the Bank ladder match. This was insane. This is definitely the first MITB match that I’d consider to be memorable in a while – I only remember last year for Bray costing Roman (because it was replayed over and over and over) and that Sheamus won and two year’s ago Rollins won. This one actually had some crazy spots. The uppercuts in the corner to the cannonballs into the corner to the Helluva Kicks in the corner was ridiculous. Cesaro and Jericho and Owens and Zayn all took some ridiculously crazy bumps on the ladder. Del Rio did an Arm breaker on top of a ladder and took a superkick too. And that’s not all of it, either. Some crazy shit. And Ambrose won to no one’s surprise – I’m still a little salty Owens lost but for what we got later I can deal with it.
Rusev defeated Titus O’Neill to retain the U.S. Title in a match I did not watch because it was not worthy of my time. I think there was a lucky winner and Rusev trolled Titus’s kids after though.
And finally, the main event was Roman Reigns defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins in a really good match. I wouldn’t call it incredible, but it was at least on par with Styles/Cena, and better because the finish didn’t suck. That Spear Roman hit on himself through the barricade looked sick. I would never want to do that. Rollins reversed a Spear into a Pedigree – it was pretty sick. Reigns had hit one Spear already after the second ref bump of the night but the ref being out made the count slow. Anyways, Rollins hits a second Pedigree and beats Roman Reigns clean to become the NEW WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And then Dean Ambrose cashed in on Seth Rollins and won the WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YESYESYESYESYESYESYES!!!!! All three Shield members were WWE Champion on this show, so Shield lovers better be ecstatic.
What an end to a show. It wasn’t the best Money in the Bank ever like WWE said it was going to be, but it was pretty good. But without the MITB match and what happened at the end, the show wouldn’t be so well received I don’t think. It was just the big matches that carried the show – but because of how it ended it will probably be overlooked how the show was basically crap from between the tag title match and Cena vs. A.J.
