Well, that show was great. So much better than WrestleMania. Best PPV of the year. Oh, and I was there. So, ha. I’ve also watched most of the show a second time once I got home, so I have both perspectives here. On the rewatch I felt like the crowd wasn’t as loud as it was in person – so I wonder if they edited the sound already for the crowd noise. I don’t know.
Briefly, Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler was a decent match but Dolph going over makes no sense, even if he just rolled up Corbin because he was being cocky.
Kalisto vs. Ryback was very fun. It really built as it went along. Ryback is a douchnozzle dickbiscuit and mocked CM Punk’s “It’s Clobberin’ Time” proving he is still a garbage human that needs to no longer exist on this planet. It’s too bad he didn’t try to use CM Punk’s moves, then maybe he’d have actually won.
The main show started with the New Day coming out and being awesome, before SAWFT came out and did their usual awesome schtick before facing the Vaudevillains in the tournament finals. And, well, we all know what happened here – it really sucks to see someone get hurt. And Enzo getting a concussion was very sad to see. It deflated the audience. Thankfully he’s been discharged from the hospital already and hopefully he’ll have a speedy recovery. It’s just so upsetting to see it happen and to see Cass upset about it – and they’d just finally gotten to the main roster which has been long overdue. Sad.
That being said, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn went out there and had to get the crowd back into it, and had the best match on the show. I’ve seen three live wrestling shows this year. Sami Zayn had the best match on all three of them. And, as is tradition with awesome matches, the best thing I can do is tell you to go watch it instead of trying to do it justice through words. You need to go watch it now and enjoy it.
After KO did an interview and got on commentary, The Miz defended the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Cesaro in a very fun match. It started off a little slow since the crowd was tired from the Owens/Zayn match. But it started to build up, and once Sami Zayn came back through the crowd and attacked Owens on commentary things got crazy. They both ended up in the ring at one point and distracted the ref, allowing Miz to get a roll up plus tights for the win. After the match, Miz got another uppercut on the outside and a Neutralizer on the inside, before KO threw out Cesaro, powerbombed Zayn again, and would have to Miz had not been saved by Maryse. KO posed with his rightful title BECAUSE HE’S A FATHER, DAMNIT! AND THIS IS THE KEVIN OWENS SHOW!
Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose was another really good match. Pretty much what you’d expect from them, anyway. Like most of the matches on this show, actually, it got to a point where I thought it was going to end, but then it still went on a little longer, which benefited each match. I wonder if each match was given a few extra minutes because the first match was cut short. Regardless, Ambrose won, so hurray!
Charlotte defeated Natalya via screw job in a good match, but not great. Considering I had no real interest in this because I only like Charlotte to a point and Natalya brings me so much vast emotional damage. It was somewhat slow and boring, and really did lack the energy that Becky or Sasha would have brought the match. I kind of laughed that the screw job happened because I thought earlier in the match “Why is little Naitch officiating this match?” So LOL. Sadly this means we’re getting a rematch. Ugh.
After the McMahon segment where Vince made both Shane and Stephanie be in charge, where tons of CM Punk chants happened and Stephanie was booed so much that she couldn’t talk.
Roman Reigns defeated AJ Styles in a very good albeit overbooked match. The stops and restarts are only annoying to me so that doesn’t add to anything for me. But outside of that the match was very good. We got the Superman Punch out of the Phenomenal Forearm that I knew would happen three weeks ago. The only other issue with this is that the Bullet Club never turned on AJ and the Usos also showed up to no one’s delight. But, Roman retains clean, no surprise. No problem with it, just sitting here waiting for an explanation about the lack of Finn Balor.
Overall the show was pretty much amazing. The only issues are, most importantly, Enzo’s injury, then the lack of Finn Balor, and also Corbin losing. One is just unfortunate, one is just not getting something I wanted, and the other is a bit petty. So outside of Corbin losing, I can’t fault them for that.
Overall Grade: A
