Finally some good wrestling that I’m excited for. Hurray! This should definitely be an interesting show – some have called it a “B” show because there’s no world title match and the women getting to go on last, while great, isn’t as important as it they’re making it because there’s no NXT Title match – that they’re going on last is a result of the NXT Champion being in the tag tournament. Understandable, but I still don’t think that’s true, really. That being said, this was supposed to be the first Takeover I get to watch live, then the NHL put the Blackhawks’ opening game of the season on the same night, at the same time, which is only just as important because it’s a banner raising ceremony. Then the Cubs managed to make the playoffs in the Wild Card game, which was put on the same night, at the same time – and how many times do the Cubs make the playoffs, even if it’s only for one game? And then someone put the season premiere of Arrow on the same night, at the same time. Ok, that one gets dvr’ed without a problem. I’m seriously having trouble deciding what to watch first. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME??????
Asuka vs. Dana Brooke
Much like with any new talent’s debut match, I look forward to seeing what Asuka can do. I wish this was against Emma though and not Dana Brooke, so she at least had a competent opponent to work with.
Apollo Crews vs. Tyler Breeze
This match is just kind of happening. Just once I’d like them to give Breeze a win. I don’t think he’s won a match at Takeover since Takeover II last May. Certainly this will be good, I just hope for better things for both.
Prediction: Apollo Crews
Dusty Classic Semifinals and Finals
Match 1: Finn Balor and Samoa Joe vs. Dash and Dawson
Match 2: Jason Jordan and Chad Gable vs. Baron Corbin and Rhyno
Doing these all together because they all have ties to each other. It’s really a surprise to me how some of this has turned out – mainly that Dash and Dawson made it to the semifinals. You’d think the Vaudevillains and/or Blake and Murphy would make it but nope. I’d have liked a tag title match between them on the show too. And no Enzo and Cass either. Oh well. I’m looking forward to how it all turns out – I feel like the most likely winners of the first to matches will be Balor and Joe and Jordan and Gable, and I expect Jordan and Gable to win the whole thing. But I could see Dash and Dawson winning too because they beat the Vaudevillains leading up to this. Obviously they’re leading to Balor vs. Joe at the next show, and this will be a good way to launch that. I’m not sure one would turn on the other during the match – it’s possible, but I wouldn’t guarantee it. I feel it’ll happen either after the finals is over and they lose, or more likely just in the next few weeks.
Semifinals Predictions: Finn Balor and Samoa Joe, Jason Jordan and Chad Gable
Finals Predictions: Jason Jordan and Chad Gable
30 Minute Ironwoman Match for the NXT Women’s Championship
Bayley (c) vs. Sasha Banks
Everything about this is awesome. Their first match was the best match of the year, and even if it doesn’t exactly live up to it for what the story was and the atmosphere, the match itself should be awesome. Odds of me crying for the fourth straight time because of an NXT women’s match are high. (And possibly the last time since most of the main four are on Raw and others they’re pushing now are Dana Brooke and Eva Marie so….)
It should be great as always, review after the show.
