Alright, time for a quick review of WWE Payback 2014. I’m sorry if this is quick but I’m too disappointed in the Blackhawks losing right now to talk at length, and now I have two other things to write tonight as well. Also, to be honest, I was distracted during much of the show in finding out the score, so it will not be the best review I have ever done.

The opening match was Sheamus defending Dean Ambrose’s WWE U.S. Championship against Cesaro in a good match with a stupid ending. I enjoyed the match thoroughly as I expected to, but the ending just took me right out of it. Cesaro does the swing to Sheamus and Sheamus, with his glorious lack of selling, can’t even sell dizziness properly and rolls Cesaro up and wins………I really don’t care that Sheamus had to win, but, really? Like that? Stupidity.

The next match was a random tag team match between Cody Rhodes and Goldust and Ryback and Curtis Axel. The match was alright, but I honestly was too distracted during this match to comment about most of it. Rybaxel wins because why? No one knows. Rhodes brothers are going to be over soon.

Next was Rusev vs. Big E in what I’m going to call a “Flag Off” and then a two spot match. Literally, outside of the Big E spear off the apron and the kick, what else was this? Rusev, please 1) wear pants, 2) become interesting, and 3) use a finisher that doesn’t look like rape.

Kane beats up Kofi Kingston while Bo Dallas watches because, time killing, that’s why.

Bad News Barrett then defeated Rob Van Dam to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship in a good match. Not too much to say about it, but glad to see Barrett go over clean.

Daniel Bryan keeps the title because Brie Bella decides to quit. Hopefully she takes Nikki with her.

Next was Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena in, well, let’s just call this what this really was – a Six Man Tag Team Captain Fall Last Man Standing Match, because that’s essentially what it was. It was really the Wyatts vs. Cena and the Usos. Let’s just put this out there – the match? It was good. And all bias aside, I’m not that angry that Cena won. What bugged me about it, though, was how run of the mill the finish was. The finish just bugged me because it’s nothing we haven’t seen. Just an F-U off an elevated surface. Nothing new. I would’ve liked to see something crazier than that. Other than that, enjoyed the match, definitely better than the Cage match. Problem is, this feud has done nothing for Bray Wyatt, so what was the point?

Paige defeated Alicia Fox in a fairly boring match to retain the WWE Second Rate Women’s Championship, but at least I got to see a Scorpion Cross Lock. Too bad Alicia didn’t have a meltdown.

And finally, the main event, a Six Man Elimination Tag Team No Holds Barred Match between The Shield and Evolution. This match was amazing. Just awesome. The only thing that confused me was why there was tagging in and out when there’s no dq. This plays in later when Roman Reigns is the legal man but Dean Ambrose pins Randy Orton….? Whatever, the match was awesome. I did NOT think this match was going to go the Shield’s way after Cena won earlier in the night, and the fact the Reigns was taking a ridiculous amount of punishment while the others were incapacitated up the ramp. But the turning point was Rollins diving off the titantron onto everyone. I was wondering where he went because I saw him crawl behind the screen a while before they got there. Anyways, they crawled back to the ring, and Evolution goes down one by one. I was happy to see Ambrose get a pin, too, because he never seems to get any damn credit. Would’ve liked Rollins to get one, but oh well. Still waiting for Triple H to eat that Triple Powerbomb, though.

Overall, the show was pretty good. I was a little distracted, though. The finishes hurt a couple of the matches, but the main event will be one of the best matches of the year.
